GETTING TO THE FINISH LINE
Learning the craft of Screenwriting Part 2

This remote 6-WEEK CLASS will focus on helping writers who have developed a First Act of a screenplay (or television pilot) complete the first draft of their script.

You will learn how to create a compelling story, keep the audience interested and entertained through the script, and  use writing tools to get you through to the finish line.

Customized for the summer season, the class meets for six weeks, with an additional 1.5 hr. weekly writing lab to focus on your writing practice and process. The day and time of the lab will be determined in the first class by the participants.

Key subjects we will cover in Intro to Screenwriting Part 2:

  • What makes a good scene?

  • How to:

    • Write effective action and dialogue to create subtext and advance dramatic tension.

    • Strengthen crucial turning points.

    • Raise the stakes for engagement.

  • Character Arcs – keep the audience caring about your protagonist.

  • Story conventions - Flashbacks, Fantasy Sequences and Dream Sequences.

  • Climaxes and resolutions - getting to the pinnacle.

  • Final scenes to satisfy the audience.

  • Rewriting as an essential practice.

The class meets on ZOOM for six Mondays,  June 10 - July 15th, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. PST.

The class fee, including the writing lab, is $375.
